Welcome
The start of the school year is always a very exciting time for
students and our entire school community, but this year is even more so with
the launch of the Full School Day. With the Full School Day, your children have
access to a high quality school day that is well-rounded with more time for reading,
math, science, and enrichment like art, and physical education. Additionally
each day, students will have time for a full lunch and recess, giving them the
opportunity to re-boot and return to the classroom refreshed and ready to learn.
In the light of many new changes here and throughout the district, we are
off to a great start and we're looking forward to another successful year of
teaching and learning, and continuing to strive for Greatness here at Pope School.
REMINDER ABOUT OUR NEW SCHOOL HOURS BEGINNING AUGUST
13, 2012: STUDENT'S NEW HOURS ARE FROM 7:45 - 2:45

At Nathaniel Pope Elementary School, our small size
is our biggest asset. Because
we are small, we can focus on the unique needs of each of our students. No
student slips through the cracks, and no child is left behind. The teachers
and staff know each individual student personally, and work to provide a rigorous
educational experience uniquely suited to meet each child’s own academic
and social needs.
Pope School is a small school that can make a big difference in your child’s
life. Research has shown that small schools can increase student engagement
and academic achievement. Since the teachers and staff know each individual student
they are better prepared to differentiate lessons and use data to guide instruction.
A small school with…
BIG opportunities
Although Pope is a small Pre-K through 8th grade school, we
offer a wide variety of learning opportunities to our students. We partner
with America Scores to offer a soccer and writing program for students. As
a community school, we offer programs that extend beyond the school day, including
recreational sports, dancing, arts and crafts, and even counseling services for
the entire family.
BIG expectations
Because we are a small school with ambitious goals, we can tailor
our instructional program to meet the needs of individual students and ensure
each student’s success. We use the Balanced Literacy approach to reading
which ensures we cover all of the inter-related instructional skills and strategies.
We hold each of our students to the highest standard, and work to ensure that
all of our students meet their fullest potential, and are prepared to successfully
continue their educational experiences resulting in graduation from high school
and college/career ready.
BIG results
Pope School has been on an upward climb for the past few years. Recent
data indicates that we have made considerable gains in Reading & Math and
we continue to strive toward all students meeting state standards. Our
teachers are very hardworking and dedicated and students are always challenged
which contributes to the positive gains school wide success.
